MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

Highwood USA is a rapidly growing manufacturer of outdoor furniture and spa cabinets located in Hometown, PA. We offer tremendous opportunities to motivated employees. We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to assist in all aspects of the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and development of new work cells using Lean principles.
  • Initiate and lead development including tooling/fixture design and process automation.
  • Provide technical support and training on manufacturing process.
  • Developing, maintaining and updating all documentation required to support the manufacturing process.
  • Develop CAD drawings and hands on involvement in all aspects of project completions.
  • Manage projects to acquire and install new equipment and/or to upgrade existing equipment, including development and management of budget and ROI analysis.
  • Evaluate equipment and work with vendors to recommend appropriate modifications and/or new equipment. Support the installation, modification of equipment and roll out to operations.
  • Identify and implement product improvements related to design, assembly, and packaging.
  • Apply Lean principle in resolving manufacturing issues, supporting changeover and setup improvements.
  • Lead efforts in the implementation of continuous improvement activities to increase capacity, correct issues, improve equipment and production efficiency and improve yield and product quality.

Qualifications: A minimum of a BS in Engineering with three (3) years of manufacturing experience, strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office Suite is required. Lean certification or equivalent experience. Furniture fabrication, CNC machining and automation experience a plus.

PM/REPAIR TECHNICIAN I
3rd Shift

Position Summary: Successful PM/Repair Technicians enjoy the challenges of working in a fast paced, team oriented environment while safely completing the processes associated with preventive maintenance and repair of all equipment in the plant. PM/Repair Technicians strive to provide a safe working atmosphere for all Highwood employees by assuring equipment is in good working condition, reliable and compliancy and regulatory requirements is up-to-date without violation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Independently perform all types, levels and frequencies of Preventative Maintenance on all production equipment and some support equipment
  • Ability to develop effective Preventative Maintenance Checklists where applicable
  • Capability to independently troubleshoot and repair equipment failures of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic nature
  • Capable of accurately communicating the status of an assignment and the requirements to complete the job
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Assist with installation of new equipment
  • Ability to work as a team in a team environment
  • Independently facilitate shift hand-offs
  • Support all departmental initiatives and goals and carry out action items accordingly
  • Flexibility to complete overtime when needed: weekend coverage, weekend on-call as needed, vacation coverage, call-offs, emergent repairs, etc.

CUSTOMER QUALITY ENGINEER

Position Summary: Successful Customer Quality Engineer enjoy the challenges of collecting details surrounding customer complaints and inquiries then communicating it to the appropriate department; working as a liaison between Highwood and the customer. Customer Quality Engineers are the voice for our customer at Highwood and is responsible for answering customer calls, emails and web contacts regarding a complaint or inquiry. Will be responsible for replacement parts/items, preventative action, RMAs, technical support and there procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide excellent customer service regarding complaints and inquires through multiple formats (i.e. phone, e-mail, chat) in timely and accurate manner.
  • Serves as a liaison between multiple internal departments to improve customer service and business productivity.
  • Provide appropriate corrective action to each customer preferably within a 24 hr timeframe.
  • Record, track, and analyze customer issues and provide appropriate guidance to operations and engineering on issues that need improvement.
  • Maintain weekly reports on customer inquiries, responses and feedback to develop customer service analytics and trends.
  • Ensure the operations and engineering teams complete required root cause analyses.
  • Track follow-ups and resolve customer’s outstanding issues in a timely fashion.
  • Prepare documentation of routine customer issues, and build “Wiki’s” for reference during future customer inquiries.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth product knowledge, including product revisions, compatibility of revised components, and material/product performance capabilities.
  • Conduct customer surveys on the company’s service, products, and quality.
  • Analyze then communicate customer feedback to our technical and marketing teams that develop products and processes that better serve customer needs.
  • Lead the quality portion of the weekly 3.0 board. This includes providing appropriate trend information that becomes the source for problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Lead the customer sample process from request through completion of samples, including feedback from the customer regarding samples and next steps.
  • Cross-train with Customer Care to fulfill customer orders and serve customer needs as needed.
  • Work with fabrication & shipping teams to gather replacement items and have them shipped to customer in a timely manner.
  • Enter and confirm orders received from customers, ensuring order quantities and pricing is proper and accurate. Inform customer of unit prices, shipping date, anticipated delays, and any additional information that may be needed.
  • Continuously review, improve and update procedures for complaints, replacement parts, RMAs.

TOOLING DESIGN ENGINEER

Position Summary: Successful Tooling Design Engineers enjoy the challenges of overseeing extrusion technology and tooling design. This position develops foamed extrusion tooling and dies, process standards, and equipment specifications. This role is also responsible to: Design and develop [start to finish] of new profile designs; Develop design concepts with customers; Coordinate with outside machining services; Validate new tooling; Write operating produces; and Confirm process capability. Responsibilities also include evaluating raw materials to address product performance requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Design, develop, and validate profile extrusion tooling for foamed polystyrene and other materials
  • Manage capital and tooling projects through implementation
  • Optimize the extrusion process for throughput, yield, and quality
  • Thoroughly document process parameters to assure equipment and work team have the tools needed to make a consistent, quality product
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements on existing products
  • Coordinate all applicable product testing and ongoing validation of product specifications
  • Develop procedures and trains supervisory, management, and operator personnel in new processes as developed
  • Explore, evaluate and develop new manufacturing processes as required for new products or new in-house manufacturing capability
  • Support New Product Development efforts from design through hand-off to manufacturing
  • Work with senior leadership and customers to quote and review new tooling and manufacturing projects, guiding projects from inception to production
  • Provide feedback to customers and leadership on proposed designs of products, focusing on potential cost savings and optimal manufacturability
  • Assist manufacturing in cost reduction through process improvements, better use of materials and reduced scrap
  • Coordinate with machine shops for tool development, changes, and improvements
  • Coordinate production trials across multiple departments
  • Implement standardized work through creation of Standard Operating Procedures along with Statistical Process Control for new and existing products
  • Troubleshoot the production process, providing operations support as needed

PROFILE TECHNICIAN
Full Time
2nd or 3rd shift (8 hour shifts Monday - Friday)

Responsibilities include:

  • Operation of compound and profile extrusion lines from start up through packaging of finished product
  • Color and tool changeovers
  • Understanding of quality specifications and performance/documentation of quality checks
  • Basic maintenance such as inspection, care and cleaning of equipment

Responsible for the entire process associated with fabricating furniture and panels from raw material handling through QA and packing finished product.

Can operate hand tools and power tools, including but not limited to drill/screw gun, staple gun, brad nailed, router, chop saw.
