INDUSTRIAL DESIGNER

The designer will be part of the New Product Development team and will explore a wide variety of compelling design options. The designer will communicate concepts and ideas through verbal, visual and written forms, and develop design options through sketching, 3D CAD modeling, rendering or physical mock ups.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conceptual development of outdoor furniture and spa cabinet products.
  • Ability to interact effectively with engineering, sales & marketing, manufacturing, and customers among others in the development of new products.
  • Produce quality, creative, and innovative designs with an eye on the marketplace.
  • Research market for theme attributes including form, colors, materials, finishes, and textures.
  • Design focus should also include the human factor and ergonomics with an understanding of consumer’s needs and user behavior.
  • Preparation of inspiration boards, materials, and models for customer presentations and trade shows.
  • Prepare and coordinate prototype samples.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: A BS in Industrial Design or equivalent. Experience with 3D CAD/solid design (AutoCad Inventor, Solid Works or Pro Engineer) required. Demonstrates talent through portfolio.


 

MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

Highwood USA is a rapidly growing plastics extrusion company located in Hometown, PA. We offer tremendous opportunities to motivated employees. We are seeking an Engineer to assist in all aspects of the manufacturing process, including developing new furniture fabrication capabilities. The ideal candidate will be familiar with woodworking, plastics, and Lean Manufacturing techniques.

This individual will be responsible for designing mechanical parts, assemblies and systems to meet customer requirements. Researching components and other aspects of design. Providing engineering support and guidance to manufacturing organization. Managing the NPD process by maintaining effective communication with management, sales, production, procurement, and quality organizations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design of the mechanical aspects of outdoor furniture and spa cabinets.
  • Interface with customers to provide design engineering support for new products.
  • Interface with vendors for new designs or issue resolution with existing designs.
  • Building prototypes as proof of design concept.
  • Develop product documentation and specifications.
  • Provide customers with conceptual drawings and solid models.
  • Support new products from design stage through volume manufacturing.
  • Provide engineering support to production team for existing products.
  • Provide training as needed to technicians and manufacturing personnel.
  • Participate in cost and waste reduction efforts including product / process improvements.
  • Evaluate and make engineering recommendations for new production capital equipment.

Qualifications: A minimum of a BS in Mechanical Engineering with three (3) years of design experience. Experience with 3D CAD/solid design (AutoCad Inventor, Solid Works or Pro Engineer) required. Finite element modeling is a plus. Experience with manufacturing processes including CNC routing, profile extrusion, fabrication and assembly is a plus.


 

MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

Highwood USA is a rapidly growing plastics extrusion company located in Hometown PA. We offer tremendous promotional opportunities and have an opening for an Engineer.


The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving all aspects of the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the installation and/or modification for all process equipment.
  • Lead efforts in the implementation of continuous improvement activities to increase capacity, correct process issues, improve equipment and process efficiency, and improve process yield and product quality.
  • Manage projects to acquire and install new equipment and/or to upgrade existing equipment, including development and management of budget and ROI analysis.
  • Apply Lean principle in resolving process issues, supporting changeover and setup improvements.
  • Evaluate process equipment and work with vendors to recommend appropriate modifications and/or new equipment.
  • Evaluate and implement strategic processing technology upgrades.
  • Implement continuous improvement projects using statistical tools to minimize process variability.
  • Provide technical support and training on process machinery operation and changeover procedures.
  • Support Operations in the evaluation, troubleshooting, and optimization of manufacturing equipment and processes.

Responsible for SOP's changes affected by the process/equipment addition and changes.


 

ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

The professional we seek has a strong background in Organizational Development in a manufacturing environment. The primary role is developing the vision and implementing the strategy for Highwood USA across all areas of the company to maximize employee development, engagement, and organization effectiveness. This encompasses both individual and team professional development, coaching, training, as well as developing and cultivating a pipeline of new employees to support continued growth. This professional demonstrates leadership by example, challenges the status quo, and is influential in managing change through a positive, coaching-style personality, both one-on-one and in among teams.

Responsibilities will include both development of existing employees/teams (approx. 80% of role) and development of recruiting “pipelines” (20%). Highwood employs a High Performance Work Team (HPWT) approach with all production technicians, and uses a contribution-based pay system for hourly employees. All salaried employees use a quarterly performance development plan—with a 3-yr professional development goal mutually established with their manager. Key strategic goals for Highwood are increased employee engagement/ownership at all levels, improved teamwork, and— ultimately—recognition as the best place to work in our market area.

The OD Manager will work across the company to improve business results through culture, employee engagement, and alignment of OD objectives with the company’s mission, vision, and core values. Working with the Leadership Team, develop a 3 and 5 year vision for organizational strategy, and execute OD initiatives to deliver on the strategy. The strategy would encompass recruiting, on-boarding, talent management and development, recognition and rewards, compensation and benefits.

This role entails assessing bench strength, and creating plans to build depth; as well as identifying skills/talent gaps, and formulating programs to close gaps. Design, develop and implement learning curricula that support the business strategy, including career planning for all employees to identify and grow in areas related to their current or future job roles. Collaborate with leaders across the company to ensure that employees have access to tools that support their career advancement.

Determine effectiveness of all current assessment tools and recommend new tools to support the talent management. Design and develop mentorship program that supports succession, leadership and performance management initiatives, including recommending coaching and developmental assignments. Determine and create “Return on Investment”, “Impact on Business” and “Return on Expectation” metrics to support all organizational development initiatives.

To be considered, the minimum requirements for this position are:

  • BA/BS required in Organizational Development, I/O Psychology, Human Resources or related field.
  • Advanced degree and/or certification a plus.
  • 5 years strong OD experience in a manufacturing firm.

ACCOUNTANT

Highwood USA LLC, a growing manufacturer of synthetic wood products, is seeking an experienced Accountant to oversee all aspects of the accounting function at its facility in Hometown, PA. The Accountant will work closely with all functional groups across the company to develop sound controls regarding the accounting function and to develop a framework for gathering and analyzing the true delivered cost of our product lines. In addition, this position will be responsible for general accounting functions including A/R, A/P, GL, month-end close and reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Development of internal controls for all facets of the accounting function.
  • Handling all of the day to day transactions in AP, AR, Inventory, Sales, General Ledger, etc.
  • Leading the month-end close and financial reporting process.
  • Value stream costing and variance analysis.
  • Development of leading indicators of performance for each team and level across the company.
  • Financial analyses such as make-buy, capital purchase decisions, and cash analysis.
  • Development of a value stream costing system within the ERP system, employing LEAN accounting principles.
  • Ideation and Creation of MIS reports appropriate for each team.
  • Management of the fixed assets system.
  • Supporting the Supply Chain team with vendors in order to leverage pricing, and contract terms.
  • Working closely with Customer Care to manage accounts receivable and minimize bad debt exposure (conduct credit analysis on customers and set credit limit/trade terms).
  • Development of a cash management process.
  • Handling of day to day banking relationships.

Competencies

Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Science and at least 5-7 years’ experience in Accounting within an ERP system. Demonstrated ability to lead projects/initiatives, excellent analysis skills, prior purchasing/supplier relationship experience, and experience implementing a standard cost system a plus.


 

ACCOUNTING CLERK

Responsible for processing accounts receivables and accounts payable. Also, inventory and account reconciliations, cost accounting and other duties as required. Attention to detail, ability to work in a team environment and excellent communication skills are essential. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs required. Experience working with an ERP system and in a manufacturing setting a plus.


 

SUMMER INTERNSHIP - ENGINEERING
Part Time

Highwood USA is seeking an Engineering Intern student to assist with manufacturing improvement projects. We are a rapidly growing plastics extrusion and manufacturing company in Hometown PA. The Engineering Intern will perform activities concerned with design, development, testing, and implementation of equipment upgrades and product development. The position will report directly to the Plant Engineer and will assist in performing engineering analysis, developing CAD Drawings, and generating new ideas for improvements.

Projects include:

  • Improvements to equipment in furniture manufacturing cell.
  • Assist with implementing Lean Manufacturing Tools
  • Assist with the development of new product prototypes.

Required Skills:

ELECTROMECHANICAL TECHNICIAN

Highwood is seeking an Electromechanical Technician to help support recently added CNC machinery and expand our industrial automation capability. We are a rapidly growing plastics extrusion and manufacturing company in Hometown PA. The Electromechanical Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of production and plant equipment. The scope includes working with mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic devices and systems. This individual must be able to deal with situations involving all types of equipment including advanced CNC machine tools, robotic equipment and special diagnostic instruments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Diagnose problems with PLC’s and complex control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair plant equipment and processes.
  • Assist with design, assembly, and installation of electromechanical equipment.
  • Perform detailed preventative maintenance operations as specified.
  • Prepare requisitions for spare parts and required maintenance supplies as directed.
  • Work from drawings, layouts, inspection manuals, sketches or verbal instructions.
  • Read and interprets blue prints, schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Install electrical or electronic parts and hardware in housings or assemblies, using soldering equipment and hand tools.
  • Analyze and record test results, and prepare written testing documentation.
  • Utilize safe work methods; adhere to safety regulation; various codes, ordinances and regulations.

Job Requirements

  • Associate degree or Certificate in a related field or equivalent knowledge level working with Electromechanical systems.
  • Experience working with, testing, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing a variety of electronic instrumentation devices, motors, machinery and other equipment, using a variety of tools and precision diagnostic instruments.
  • Experience with tools and equipment used in the trouble-shooting, testing, calibration, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment and devices.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude and understand PLC and process control technology.
  • Excellent problem solving, judgment, decision making and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft® office suite of products.
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license.


 

PROFILE TECHNICIAN
Full Time
3rd shift (8 hour shifts Monday - Friday)

Responsibilities include:

  • Operation of compound and profile extrusion lines from start up through packaging of finished product
  • Color and tool changeovers
  • Understanding of quality specifications and performance/documentation of quality checks
  • Basic maintenance such as inspection, care and cleaning of equipment
  • Trouble shooting of equipment and process issues
  • Participation in continuous improvement projects/teams
  • Complete and accurate documentation of production, scrap, run conditions, and other key data
  • Ability to learn and use a computer at a basic level
  • Packing, banding and wrapping finished product
  • Forklift operation
  • Ability to pass color-blindness test

Qualifications:

Extrusion Experience a plus. High School Diploma or GED required as well as ability to work well in teams.

FABRICATION CELL TECHNICIAN
Full Time
2nd shift

Responsible for the entire process associated with fabricating furniture and panels from raw material handling through QA and packing finished product.

Can operate hand tools and power tools, including but not limited to drill/screw gun, staple gun, brad nailed, router, chop saw.

  • Demonstrates attention to detail and able to work in a fast paced environment.

WOODWORKER
Full Time

Responsible for producing, designing, crafting, and testing furniture wood products using specialized tools.

  • Design, produce, and test wood products.
  • Build furniture using hand tools.
  • Use automated machinery, such as computerized numerical control (CNC) machines.
  • Perform work in high production assembly line facility.
  • Set up, operate, and tend drill presses, lathes, shapers, routers, sanders, planers, and wood-nailing machines.
  • Cut, shape, and smooth wooden parts.
  • Verify dimensions using caliper or ruler.
  • Add fasteners and adhesives and connect the pieces to form a complete unit.
  • Operate specialized pieces of woodworking machinery.
  • Complete all stages of woodworking process.
  • Repair wooden furniture, and other wood products.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED. Experience in basic or rough carpentry a plus.
